In an effort to look our best, we all have made some wrong turns. So for the sake of those who often wonder "Why didn't anyone tell me?" I want to share a few things that you might want to consider when you're giving yourself the once over before you walk out the door.

1. Choosing to always go without makeup- I think natural beauty is great, but as you can see below even the most beautiful people look much better once they put their faces on. To me it's actually more of a courtesy to others to try to take away the harshness of the no makeup look. It's not necessary to go all out, however a little foundation and lip gloss give will give you a smooth and more polished look.

2. Applying Makeup that overpowers your natural beauty- These days the trend is intense makeup with bold color and lots of sparkle. I come across a lot of beginners who seem think that the more intense, the better. I must say that I do see some creativity out there that reflects the talent of a makeup artist who should be preparing celebrities for an on-stage performance, but for those of us who are headed to school or work, I think it should be more about YOU than the makeup. When the makeup becomes the focus, it may be time to consider scaling back a bit. I think it's fine to have fun and experiment with color, but remember to blend and most of all don't forget that makeup is there to serve you by enhancing your best features and minimizing those few trouble spots. Unless you need to be seen from long distances, I recommend that you don't let your makeup upstage you!

3. Taking some hair styles too far- The trend of the moment will come and go, but classic sophistication never gets old. It's also the look that almost anyone of any race or background can appreciate. If your aim is to make a delightful impression on just about everyone you meet, then give some extra consideration to the looks that may be hot on the trend scene, but not necessarily appropriate for the world at large. It's great to show that you have style but it's unnecessary to strive to be completely out of the box.

4.Going too natural- In recent years many women have forsaken relaxers and opted for a natural hair look. A lot of them have expressed that going natural has given them a sense of liberation since they no longer have to feel so much stress over the cost, time, and energy involved in maintaining chemically treated hair. To that I say," Wonderful!" I can certainly understand and relate to the need to be free from the burden of stressing over what must be done to keep your hair looking nice. That said, I must say that I do see some women who have taken the idea of low maintenance too far. Low maintenance is a lot different from no maintenance. Natural hair may be easier to manage, but it still requires a some amount of work. No matter what options you choose for your hair, I think that it is still very important to seek out a style(s) that flatter you. You can't just roll out a bed, throw on a head band, and say, "Oh it's natural." and expect intelligent people to consider that to be "good style."

5. Wearing clothes that insult your figure- Whether it's your comfy go to garment or that dress that you paid a pretty penny for, the fact remains that if it's too tight, too short, too colorful, or too worn, it's not serving you well. Nothing ruins your look like outfits that are ill-fitted, dated, or not age appropriate. One major problem I also notice is that many women seem to think that buying name brand items with high price is the definition of having great style. The truth is whether it's Chanel or Target, the important question is "Does it compliment your figure and suit your personality?" If it does not, then the outfit will most certainly take more from you than it gives. When that is the case, I say regardless of cost or sentimental value, "Let it go!" Just give it away, or cut it up. Burn it, if that will keep you and a bad article of clothing away from each other. I have found that many of the women who I have given beauty consultations have suffered a lot of loss and disappointment simply because of how they dress at times. Some bad outfits can make you look heavier, or uninteresting, and even less intelligent. Remember your clothes should serve you, not deplete you. Make sure your style is up to par. Most of all remember to choose clothes for your wardrobe because they feel comfortable and they look great, and not just because they cost a lot. Great style is about more than a price tag.

6. Dressing too young, too old, or too provocatively- I see petite 40 year olds who should be applauded for their amazing figures, but who should be ticketed for wearing clothes from the spicy section of the junior department. Although some pieces may fit well and show off your flat abs, that doesn't mean that they reflect the mature woman that you have become. On the flip side, let me also say that for those of you ladies in your twenties who are accepting your mom's hand me down dresses, unless she is truly a fashion aficionado "Just say No!" And if you are single and looking, you should certainly add some tasteful interest to your wardrobe. Be especially careful that you are not repelling possible prospects with a look that says, "I'm settled and satisfied, so don't talk to me." Most of all be sure not to give off the wrong message with clothes that make you interesting in a less tasteful way. 7. wearing wigs that look like wigs- Corntrary to what lots of women think, people should always be surprized that you are wearing a wig. If they are not, it should be because they saw you yesterday with your real hair and it's only 2 inches long, not because your wig is not the perfect fit for you. I am a huge fan of hair pieces and extensions, and I am all for being versatile, stylish, and beautiful.
